The Calvert County Public Library System had greatly outgrown the existing Southern Branch library and Gant Brunnett was brought onboard to design a new facility within a large, retail shell space.

Library patrons can now enjoy an expanded collection area with integrated lounge spaces that offer relaxing opportunities for recreational reading. Complementing the stack areas are distinctive WiFi counters, public access computer stations, group meeting areas, and private study rooms. A centralized circulation desk allows staff to oversee the performance of the library as a whole, while enhanced work spaces provide the amenities necessary for them to maintain daily operations. Wave patterns and nautical themes have been woven into every design opportunity, emphasizing the strong connection the library has to the rich maritime heritage of the community.
