Designs for major renovations were created by Gant Brunnett to convert an existing 4-story masonry and timber building to accommodate 36 new apartment units coupled with retail storefronts at the street level. A unique aspect of the project is that the apartments are subsidized to target recent college graduates in an attempt to attract new teachers to the Baltimore City School System. Astor Court is located in the Goucher National Register Historic District. The design was developed to conform with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standard for Rehabilitation to take advantage of Federal and State historic restoration tax credits.
